Mr Steve Tacey has visited the wreck several times, in fact he salvaged a fair bit of her deck planking and sent me the below souveniers.
The first souvenier is a piece of her teak deck that he made into a plaque, the photo attached was taken by Mr Tacey in around 1975. Below the photo is part of a brass hinge also salvaged from the wreck. The hinge has been made into a brass nameplate for the plaque, to which Mr Tacey has stamped the ships name into it. On the rear of the plaque in part states:
"SS AUSTRALIS, This item was salvaged from the wreck of the American Star on 4th July 1995 by World Ship Society Member Steven Tacey".
The second souvenier is of the mass produced postcard that most people interested in the Australis would have as they are easy to come by, however this one is a little different. This postcard was found on the wreck in the Pursers Office during one of Mr Taceys visits, the rear reads;
"This postcard was salvaged from the wreck of the American Star (ex Australis ex America) in June 1995 and was found in the Pursers Office on Main Deck Steven Tacey"
My sincere thanks to Mr Tacey for his kind gifts to myself
